🤔 WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

We love being alchemists - mixing different things together and seeing what explodes, or doesn’t! 💥

Our Sandbox Sessions have two aims; to be an unlocked space for artists of different backgrounds to mix their practices and discover how we can create together, and to discover what collaborations can work. (Spoiler, we think anybody can collaborate and create something)

Think of them like a Research and Development process without the pressure of having to create a show, or a residency without the pressure of ending with a viable outcome.

You can expect two joyful, action-packed days of moving, playing and experimenting with form as an ensemble and responding to Conrad's practice as a Hip-Hop Theatre-Maker and GymJam's distinct physical and satirical brand of theatre.. You can expect:

- Engaging with the equipment Conrad will offer us. (No experience in music or playing an instrument is needed!)

- Transparency and clarity in our processes of approaching, making and creating work.

- Creative provocations to generate content and material, including writing tasks, movement exercises, personal and mindful provocations and more.

- A safe, brave and creative space for artistic collaboration - we believe in being human first and setting up a space that is free of expectation, except the expectation to engage with each other.

Any further questions? Check out the form first, or DM us or email us info@gymjamtheatre.com for anything we haven't answered.

Sound Designer Call out

a6a210f9-a225-4258-93b8-8968f786f330.JPG

We are looking for a sound designer to collaborate with us on our latest R&D process! If this is you, or someone you know, please head to our linktree in our bio @gym_jam_theatre to find the application form. Info below.

Where and how long?

This project will be based in London, and it will be one week of exploration with our creative team plus meetings before and after the process. We are flexible on how you manage your time as part of the project, but being in the room for some of the R&D week is essential. R&D w/c 17th April

Is this paid?

Yes. £650 for 5 days plus check-in meetings.

What’s the project?

We are holding the R&D to re-imagine our award-winning film ‘Anthropocene’ for the stage, ideally to be toured sustainably. Originally, Anthropocene tackled the Climate Crisis by diving into the mind of Megan, who whilst waiting for the result of a pregnancy test, imagines all the possible futures and realities our children will face if the Climate Crisis is left un-checked. As this is a global topic and our understanding of the Climate Crisis has changed since 2021, within this R&D and future creative processes we aim to emerge with a more global message and a global creative team. You will find references, trailers and info on Anthropocene all over our page, so head there for more.

What are you hoping for?

We are looking for you to be a collaborative creative who doesn’t mind jumping into conversations, working within a flexible and playful process, and collaborating with our live musician who will be leading the project musically. A big part of our work is telling the story through sound, soundbites, and soundscapes, so an enthusiasm for this is vital, we love using humour as well as strong messages.

More specifically, part of this work will require obtaining and using soundbites from pop culture, news, videos and interviews on the Climate Crisis to be used in the process. Will and Gav will also be on hand to help with this.

How do I apply?

Via Google Form here

Applications end by midday on the 29th Jan.

We will let you know our decision either way no later than the 5th Feb.

We dislike unnecessarily long application processes for many reasons, as freelancers they take up your time and headspace for free. Our form is as brief as we can make it without devaluing who you are, but if you have any questions, or want to let us know about anything the form doesn’t cover, drop us an email on: info@gymjamtheatre.com

You will be working alongside:

-  2 co-directors

- 1 live musician

- 6 ensemble members

WE ARE AWARD WINNERS!

We are incredibly excited to announce that on the 20th February 2022 GymJam won an OFFIE award for ANTHROPOCENE: The Human Era!

The OFFIE team awarded us an ONCOMM award for;

'Best Immersive/Interactive Digital Theatre Show'

Gavin and William recieved the award via an online ceremony, and gave a speech thanking the cast, creative team and organisations that contributed so much to this project. Once again, thank you.

It goes without saying this award simply wouldn't be possible without the unwavering support of you, our audience, and the endless energy and dedication that our artists and supporters gave to this project.

To all of you, thank you.

We are collaborating internationally

This is some very exciting news for us here at GymJam.

We are now collaborating with Italian Theatre Company, Dogma Theatre.

After our companies had a well timed introduction to each other, we started talking and noticed our similar but different styles of work. We decided to collaborate on sharing our practice on each other's home turf, but needed funding.

After collaborating with Eden Court on their Climate of Hope season in November 2021, we teamed up with Eden Court once again and applied to Creative Scotland's Four Nations International Fund, and won!

Since, GymJam have travelled to Milan in Italy and delivered an intensive weekend of work with local artists and with Dogma's company members. We are now planning for them to come to London and Scotland in March 2022.

Keep your eyes peeled for their workshop at Eden Court in Inverness on the 23rd March and in London at Poplar Union on the 27th March!
